New Research: Worldview @ Work
We just published a new research report - Worldview @ Work - focusing on differences in worldview inside a business. The findings are pretty striking, especially regarding sales and marketing. The report is free, and you can download it now at the Market Ideology website.
I usually focus on customers and markets as conservative or liberal - and how that influences business growth. In the course of that work, it became evident that many businesses project a liberal or conservative worldview, often unwittingly, for better or worse. This led me to study the root causes, which required looking at the respective worldviews of different areas and departments within business, as well as founders.
To get a clear worldview picture inside business, we worked with OpenSecrets.org, a non-partisan non-profit focused on political finance. They helped compile Federal Election Commission (FEC) data on conservative and liberal donors from January through August 2022, reflecting 2.5 million donations totaling more than $2.7 billion. We then analyzed the data for different job roles and supplemented the analysis with academic research to help explain the differences.
The results point to worldview as an influential factor in attracting staff to specific business areas. Of course, it’s not the only factor, but some departments' tendencies are pretty clear. I think you’ll find it interesting.
